It must be so depressing…

to be so stupid that you simply don’t understand that the Oscars do not exist to give prizes to the films that the unwashed, ignorant masses like the best, but rather to honor great achievements in acting, directing, film-making, etc.

Actually, it’s probably not depressing for Ted Baehr, the writer of that piece.  Pig-ignorance, indeed, is bliss.

(They say as you get older you have more and more patience, but I’m here to tell you that I have less and less patience every day for the simply, remarkably stupid among us.)

Keep these coming, Barack

Summary of the latest Executive Order issued by Obama:

Executive Order revokes Executive Order 13440 that interpreted Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions.  It requires that all interrogations of detainees in armed conflict, by any government agency, follow the Army Field Manual interrogation guidelines. The Order also prohibits reliance on any Department of Justice or other legal advice concerning interrogation that was issued between September 11, 2001 and January 20, 2009.

So far, I’m quite pleased with my vote for President, thank you!

(I love how it not only restores the rule of law in this area, but specifically points its finger at the Bush Administration.)

Laughing so hard I can’t breathe

As watertiger so aptly put it, Dick Cheney, suck on this:

THE WHITE HOUSE

                 Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release                           January 21, 2009

EXECUTIVE ORDER

- – - – - – -

PRESIDENTIAL RECORDS

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and in order to establish policies and procedures governing the assertion of executive privilege by incumbent and former Presidents in connection with the release of Presidential records by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) pursuant to the Presidential Records Act of 1978, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Executive Order 13233 of November 1, 2001, is revoked.

                             BARACK OBAMA

THE WHITE HOUSE,

    January 21, 2009.

That’s not all he did, either:

The President today signed two Executive Orders and three Presidential Memoranda.  These five documents represent a bold first step to fulfill his campaign promises to make government more responsible and accountable, to launch sweeping ethics reform, and to begin a new era of transparent and open government.

Across the country, families are tightening their belts in this economic crisis, and so should Washington. That is why in the Presidential Memorandum Regarding Pay Freeze the President has announced that he will freeze his White House senior staff pay at current levels to the full extent allowed by law.  This will enable the White House to stretch its budget to get more done for the country.  The President and his staff recognize that in these austere times, everyone must do more with less, and the White House is no exception. [NOTE FROM PAM: the press office elaborated and said that the freeze applies to those making $100K or more.]

The American people also deserve more than simply an assurance that those coming to Washington will serve their interests. They deserve to know that there are rules on the books to keep it that way. In the Executive Order on Ethics Commitments by Executive Branch Personnel, the President, first, prohibits executive branch employees from accepting gifts from lobbyists.  Second, he closes the revolving door that allows government officials to move to and from private sector jobs in ways that give that sector undue influence over government.  Third, he requires that government hiring be based upon qualifications, competence and experience, not political connections.  He has ordered every one of his appointees to sign a pledge abiding by these tough new rules as a downpayment on the change he has promised to bring to Washington.

In the Presidential Memorandum on Transparency and Open Government, and the Presidential Memorandum on the Freedom of Information Act, the Presidentinstructs all members of his administration to operate under principles of openness, transparency and of engaging citizens with their government.  To implement these principles and make them concrete, the Memorandum on Transparency instructs three senior officials to produce an Open Government Directive within 120 days directing specific actions to implement the principles in the Memorandum.  And the Memorandum on FOIA instructs the Attorney General to in that same time period issue new guidelines to the government implementing those same principles of openness and transparency in the FOIA context.

Finally, the Executive Order on Presidential Records brings those principles to presidential records by giving the American people greater access to these historic documents. This order ends the practice of having others besides the President assert executive privilege for records after an administration ends.  Now, only the President will have that power, limiting its potential for abuse.  And the order alsorequires the Attorney General and the White House Counsel to review claims of executive privilege about covered records to make sure those claims are fully warranted by the Constitution.

On his very first work day, Obama did something I’m extraordinarily proud of…transparency in a government “for the people and by the people”?!

Pshaw.

So yeah, suck on it, Dick.

Do this right now

The American Public: Still ‘Tarded!

A new Harris Poll on Americans’ religious beliefs has come out, and, as expected, it’s a doozy. Let’s just start here:

Slender majorities of all adults believe that all or most of the Old Testament (55%) and the New Testament (54%) are the “Word of God.” However, only about a third of all adults (37% and 36%) believe that all of these texts are the word of God.

Interestingly, only 26% of all adults believe that the Torah is the word of God, even though it is the same as the first five books of the Old Testament. Presumably many people do not know this.

Oh…my…God.  We are surrounded by fucking buffoons.

I, of course, read this out to the people in the room with me, and the resident 12 year-old said, “um, the Torah is part of the Old Testament,” to which we replied, “thank you for being less retarded than the American public.”

Also, a majority of Americans (59%) believe in the Devil, while a minority (47%) “believe in” evolution.  (As a scientist friend of mine says, “Why do people refer to it as a belief?  It’s not a belief.  It just is.”

Slightly more encouraging is the fact that only 40% believe in Creationism (which is a belief, based on jackshit), but still…

Read the entire Retardo Manifesto for yourself.

John Cornyn is so fucking stupid

How stupid is he?

Just watch this video from Attorney General designate Eric Holder’s confirmation hearings today:

I think it’s fair to say that Holder and Dick Durbin exposed Cornyn as the fool he is.
