Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al. Signed Off On Torture…

this is need-to-know information:

when stories started to break about the United States’ unconscionable (but also ineffective!) use of torture in places like Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, there was a predictable (but also specious!) argument advanced by some on the right that this was just a band of miscreants acting outside of their orders, and that the big-wigs like Rumsfeld didn’t know anything about it. of course, most people who use their noggins regularly said “yeah, right.”

well, yet again, the “yeah, right” from the left has been confirmed. turns out that Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, George Tenet, Condi Rice, John Ashcroft, and even Colin Powell were involved in meetings to decide just how crazy the torture should be. the article shows that….wait for it….John Ashcroft, of all people, was the one who objected the most to using torture, saying, “Why are we talking about this in the White House? History will not judge this kindly.”

yeeeeeeah. of course they knew. noggin’-using-people are aware of the chain of command, and we understand that practices as widespread as this could probably be traced right up to the top.

  1. A giant step in removing torure is never making the American public listen to President Bush speak again. I always feel as if I’ve been waterboarded!!
