California changes language in anti-gay marriage discrimination amendment (Proposition 8)

This is VERY GOOD.

Box Turtle reports (and I’m basically just lifting it, because I’m tired):

The original title was “Limit on Marriage. Constitutional Amendment”. Now it’s been changed for the better (PDF: 2 pages):

ELIMINATES RIGHT OF SAME-SEX COUPLES TO MARRY.
INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

Changes California Constitution to eliminate right of same-sex couples to marry. Provides that only a marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

Fiscal Impact: Over the next few years, potential revenue loss, mainly sales taxes, totaling in the several tens of millions of dollars, to state and local governments. In the long run, likely little fiscal impact to state and local governments.

It’s a completely reasonable change, of course, since the Supreme Court’s decision was kind of a lightbulb moment — hey, it’s already unconstitutional to discriminate against suspect classes, and logic and clearly observable reality says sexuality falls under that umbrella, so we HAVE to provide for marriage equality!

The bigots will bray, though. The bigots always bray.

Because they are donkeys.

And donkeys bray.

I’m so tired…
