Matt Littman: “McCain Makes the Biggest Political Mistake of Our Lifetimes”

He bullied Obama into traveling abroad, with his schoolyard taunts of “Oh yeah, Obama hasn’t even BEEN to Iraq in a while, he doesn’t know anything!” Matt Littman:

Senator McCain, knowing that he held an edge on Barack Obama on the “Commander in Chief” question, badly overplayed his hand. He taunted Senator Obama on his lack of foreign policy experience and he challenged Obama to go to Iraq. He sneered at Obama for formulating an Iraq policy prior to traveling to the war zone. He even offered to go with him to Iraq, as if Obama needed his hand held by the man with military experience.

McCain wanted the public to believe that Obama was a novice, a whipper-snapper who would jeopardize our nation’s security.

Obama listened to McCain’s attempted bullying and said, “You know what? I’ll go to Iraq. And Afghanistan, Israel, Germany — I’ll make this a big foreign policy trip abroad. I’ll show the voters back home that the world still really does love the United States, they just don’t love President Bush or John McCain.”

And Obama went abroad, with the world’s press following him, clinging to his every word, oohing and aahing at his every jump shot, hoping to catch a glimpse of his every smile.

The trip: the biggest success of the campaign. The Commander in Chief question: negated. Heck of job, McCain.

Meanwhile, John McCain has been back home, fucking up repeatedly and bitching about the press coverage Obama is getting for going on the trip that McCain pressured him into:

McCain, the former press darling who once referred to the media as “my base,” is so upset that press is following Obama, he’s become whining and petulant about it. It’s as if McCain and Obama both had a party, and everyone went to the Obama party, while McCain found out he’s no longer the most popular guy in school.

But perhaps, in one way, the lack of coverage of McCain is a positive. McCain keeps screwing up. His commercials are unbelievably bad. He frequently makes erroneous statements, often about Iraq. To date, he has been wrong about Iraq’s geographical location (it does not border Pakistan), wrong about the alliances of Iran (Shiite Iran does not supply Sunni Al-Qaeda with weapons), wrong about the timeline of the Anbar Awakening (occurred months before the surge). The question has to be asked: Does McCain have a firm grasp of what’s going on in Iraq?

Let’s not forget the part about John McCain trying to have a big lie-fest in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico about how awesome offshore drilling is, and God promptly smiting that idea with a hurricane

I really like Wonkette’s recap of Obama’s trip, so far:

* The U.S. troops in Afghanistan endorse his plans there.
* … Where he also made a three-pointer from way downtown on his first try.
* The Iraqi government endorses his plan over the Bush/McCain non-plan.
* He struts around without body armor, a foot taller than everybody else — in painful contrast to Ol’ Walnuts looking like a Kevlar burrito wearing an old lady’s sun hat.
* The hawkish Israelis say, “Hey, this fellow will let us nuke Iran, too. We like him fine.
* The saner Israelis say, “Hey, maybe this guy isn’t such a one-note warmonger and might actually accomplish something over here.”
* The Jordanians say, “Welcome, Mr. Cool. Our king will drive you around and you guys can figure everything out.”
* Germany’s Angela Merkel pronounces him “well-equipped — physically, mentally and politically.”
* The Palestinians make him a bagel!

Basically Barack Obama is already the President in the eyes of most of the world and over half of our own country. Littman finishes his piece this way:

All John McCain has done, with his childish taunting of Obama, is create a situation where Obama has now gone overseas; been seen with General Petraeus smiling, looking Presidential; been photographed with world leaders who seem excited by the prospect of an Obama Presidency, and shown, by images, that he fits in just fine on the world stage; and, of course, Obama has taken all the media attention with him when McCain is desperate for media coverage.

This trip would not have happened without McCain’s taunting — and so, Barack Obama would never have gone on this trip and looked this good if McCain had not made such a stunning mistake in urging him to do so.

So…thanks, Walnuts!!!

  1. What about all this talk going around about the 200,000 crowd Obama gave his speech to in Germany — seems like it is turning out to have been the same old thing that happened back in the U.S. — it was the music rock stars who really drew the crowds — who do any of you Obama supporters really think you are fooling – besides yourselves! I predicted that’s what the 200,000 crowd was there for – music baby, all about the music!!!

  2. Hehe, somebody already made fun of what you just said, long before you said it.

I just have to find it.

“Um, obviously it was all about the Decemberists again.”

    Hehehehe. Right.

  3. Evan, for the sake of your fellow countrymen get your face out of the business of McCain and focus on Obama. Obama may very well be the next President of the Greatest Country in the World and instead of vetting him left, right and centre you want to focus all your time and energy into McCain – a man that has devoted his entire life for his Country as opposed to Sen. Barack Obama. The dirt out there about Sen. Obama has out-weighed anything you could ever “uncover/expose” about Sen. McCain. You Dems had better be 100% 100% for sure of who this man Obama is and 100% 100% sure he is the one to lead our Country for the next 4 years — and make sure YOU are 100% 100% sure – and not just 100% sure like you Dems were with the folks running our Congress NOW!

  4. And P.S. Exactly where is the “mistake” that McCain made in egging Obama to go visit our Military Troops in the Middle East — seems to me like you just might be eating those words soon enough. The American people are sickened about how Obama treated our injured Troops in hospital in Germany and our Troops in general on this visit, he screwed up on interview after interview by reporters over there and this 200,000 crowd thing. I ask you again — where did McCain make his mistake exactly Evan?

  5. That’s not what happened in Germany, Karen.

McCain’s mistake is that he urged Obama to go abroad, egged him on into it, and then watched as Obama completely stepped into the presidential role.

  6. But believe me, people have vetted Obama.

We know about him, his associations, etc.

Your arguments are coming out of grammatically incorrect e-mails.

  7. No sorry Evan, honestly I am not a political person and in fact hate the whole game of it all – messing with people’s heads, fooling them, lying to them over and over and over and then NOTHING. I have set back and observed all that is going on – I have watched closely and studied for myself over the years Evan. And, I have never once received any e-mails from any side of the political fence simply for the mere fact that I am not even a registered voter. You say “we know about him, his associates, etc.” – but I ask you just what is there still left that WE do not know. Obviously you have some connections and are up in the thick of things – so tell us what is being kept secret. You are right, Obama stepped into the presidential role on his trip abroad — but alot of us back home could see that he definitely does not fit the role – mostly because he went out on stage BEFORE he was even chosen by the people to play the starring role. That’s arrogance and pompousness at its best. So Evan, I still fail to see how or why you think McCain made a big mistake in egging Obama to go to the Middle East — and what a shame that is in and of itself that Obama had to be “egged on” by anyone let alone his contender in the race for the presidency.

  8. Evan, listening to Obama on the Meet The Press with Tom Brokaw this morning, even he is repeating the figure of 200,000 people having gone to hear his speech in Germany. He even believes his own campaign’s lies. He stood before the people and yet has such poor judgement of the actual amount there. Obviously he has been before such large crowds before, heck even at maybe a football or baseball game perhaps — there is quite a big difference between 20,000 (even 100,000) and the 200,000 people Obama and his camp claim. See Evan, I make my judgements NOT by reading what other people say or write BUT by listening to the person and what comes out of their own mouths – I’m not easily fooled Evan.

  9. What the hell are you talking about?

200,000 came from the official reports, not the Obama campaign.

  10. Evan, thanks for all the links. I’ve checked them all out – and as usual in politics nothing is for fact. Even the Germans reporting on the numbers at Obama’s speech do not know for sure the exact figure to be 200,000 but the more important issue is whether 100% of all those people turned out ONLY to hear his speech and NOT some raggae and rock star performaners — that’s the issue. Suffice it to say though I am sure the German economy benefited (or perhaps not) with all the “campaigning fanfare” of Obama’s trip. Considering how horrible the economy is back home — I sure hope the Democrats bring back some of that money to help stimulate our economy – and not just for the benefit of Obama and his campaign. I must say though, I loved the pin with Obama and JFK on it — but why not MLK and Obama?

  11. Well, it’s really irrelevant — I mean, they’ve been polling people outside the United States, both American citizens abroad and foreign citizens, and the world overwhelmingly (like over 70%) supports Obama.

Having the support of the rest of the world, especially citizens in countries which are our allies, is a GOOD thing.

And the other point that I was making was that, regardless of whether or not the 200,000 number is correct, it wasn’t the Obama campaign pushing that number. It was the Berlin police/government and all the major wire services, so if the figure were, indeed, incorrect, it’s decidedly not Obama’s fault.

  12. Evan, since when does the citizens in other countries have a right to a say in the U.S. elections. Are you saying that if these very same countries did not take a liking to Sen. Barack Obama then he would throw in the towel and bow out of the race for the presidency. Obama needs to pay more attention to us folks back home.

Sen. Barack Obama seems to be more interested in appealing to other citizens of the world and not his fellow Americans, case in point, our injured Troops in hospital in Germany.

P.S. And why does Obama go out of his way to bring up the fact that he is a man of color. Is he trying to convince himself or others. We can tell he is a man of color but we thought he didn’t want us to judge or notice him that way YET he keeps finding reason to point it out almost right from the start on the campaign trails.

  13. Karen, I explained what ACTUALLY happened with the troops in Germany right on this very website.

The McCain campaign is flat-out lying and every credible source in the media, EVEN the corporate media, is reporting that McCain’s lying.

Don’t believe what people say so easily. Do your research.

As far as Obama being liked abroad, that’s a good thing b/c our country isn’t as powerful as we like to think it is, and most of the citizens in countries that are our allies despise our foreign policy.

Goodwill toward the next American president is a GOOD THING.

Oh, and Obama isn’t going out of his way to bring up that he’s black. Republicans are. He’s just responding.

Seriously, Karen, I challenge you to go one week without getting your news from Hannity or Limbaugh or Malkin or Glenn Beck or whoever the hell else it is you get your news from, and see how much your worldview and perception of the news changes.

  14. Sorry, Evan but I make comments about what I hear coming out of Obama’s mouth – both sides. How in the world can you say that you have not heard Obama bring up his race during this entire campaign. He did that abroad in Germany as well – check his speech. Why does he think that he has to tell everyone he is speaking before (especially when the majority of the people are white) that he is not like what they are used to seeing. It doesn’t matter what the hell color he is. What matters is his character first and foremost. This is another flip flop position of Obama. He doesn’t want to be judged by the color of his skin BUT on the other hand he wants to bring that fact out every chance he gets. Obama needs to get over his color(s).

  15. I didn’t say he hasn’t mentioned it at all. Reread my response.

I said that when he brings it up, he’s usually responding to subtle stuff that’s been flung at him by Republicans.

As in, when he talks about how the Republicans are painting him…it’s undeniable that the McCain campaign is using “racist dogwhistles” in their advertising. What that means is that, to people like you and me who are NOT racist, we might not immediately notice the racism that’s being used, but to a racist? They get the message loud and clear. For instance, in the new McCain “celebrity” ad that’s being widely made fun of around the country right now, they chose to blend Obama right into two white blonde haired female celebrities, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Now, when you or I see that, we may not automatically think anything of it, but when a racist sees it, he’s threatened by the image of a black man so close to white women. It was done in 2006 in my state’s senate race between Harold Ford, Jr. & Bob Corker. Perhaps not coincidentally, the same man running Bob Corker’s campaign at the time now works for John McCain.

So, honestly, if you listen to ONLY Obama’s words (and not out of context), it’s absolutely impossible to infer that he’s playing some kind of race card.

  16. Evan if McCain’s Ad would have had even one or two real celebrities in it that were Black then I think by now riots would have occurred, and ALL Republicans would have been labeled RACISTS, or even ALL white people in general. So Whatever. Just a small piece of advice for the Obama camp, since way more than the majority (if not maybe all) of white people around today do not see a person’s skin color as the basis to judge his character, so we have come a hell of a long way from back in the 50s. Barack Obama himself, being the product of a black father and a white mother, should be the very last person to even try to inject color or race into anything. Obama’s camp cries racism, that’s playing the race card – he needs to stop this if he truly wants to win the presidency. We do not want to be continuously reminded by Obama of the difference between Obama and McCain’s skin color – we want to hear the difference in their message to us. So Evan, let Obama know that the stakes are much higher when running for President of The United States of America and therefore that little old worn out and faded race card which black people have been playing with for far too long needs to be replaced with a new card out of the deck labeled HUMAN RACE!

P.S. These “racists” you mention and what they automatically think of when they see McCain’s Ad — wonder where they live 24/7 to where they never ever come across such images with a black man and white women together — do you think they are all huddled together with Osama Bin Laden in some cave somewhere. Evan, such images are EVERYWHERE in today’s world — which is another clue as to how far we have come since the 50s so I would suspect that a “racist” in todays world would be far more easy to pick out of a crowd then even a man of color. Evan, if you want your man Obama to win, you better get the message to headquarters that he must STOP bringing up the differences in how he looks and the color of his skin as opposed to McCain. In fact, tell Obama he is running a campaign as though he were a WOMAN — now that definitely would be a race based on differences — or could it be that Obama is only just starting off the race but Hillary will be the one finishing????!!!

  17. I’m sorry, Karen, but you’re truly calling the Obama campaign out for things it isn’t doing.

  18. O.k. Evan, you win. My mistake is that the Barack H. Obama who I have been seeing and listening to on the t.v. all this time obviously is not the same one you are referring to. One question Evan, – when will the REAL Sen. Barack H. Obama appear on the campaign trail – November is almost here?

  19. I guess I just don’t see what you’re talking about.

Maybe I don’t find it offensive when a black man points out that he’s black in response to the fact that much of the Republican base, which gets its news from grammatically incorrect e-mail forwards and Rush Limbaugh, is spreading around unfounded bullshit about his heritage and beliefs.

I guess I’m just not sucked into the sad lie that whites are somehow the real victims of racism.

Don’t you get it? By accusing Obama of playing the race card, the McCain campaign is playing the race card! It’s so simple…blink and you miss it.

  20. That’s just it Evan, Obama has NO need to point out that he is black (correction he is half black and half white — that’s a whole new and different race altogether) – it’s kinda obvious. What I don’t get is why is it that Obama and all his supporters think that by him being a man of color automatically disqualifies him from being treated like every other presidential candidate throughout history. Why can his “past” NOT be looked into? Why can his “associates” NOT be scrutinized and he judged accordingly? Why can his whole life and that of his wife NOT be vetted and any “dirt” brought out? Certainly it is not JUST because he is a man of color that we shouldn’t be allowed to do all of those things, is it? Obama and his supporters CANNOT expect and demand that he be treated “special” just because he is a man of color on the one hand, yet on the other cry racism at anybody who he thinks is judging him for that very same fact. Obama can’t have his cake and eat it to — not this time. The Presidency cannot be served up to him on a silver platter just because he is a man or color — if he is not deserving and the majority of the American people see it that way.

Obviously Evan, you have not been around or even experienced for yourself the race card being played by black people. A lot of black people have used the race card in every situation there is in life when they have had dealings with white people, and if things don’t go the way they want it to (NOT, the way it should) for whatever the reason – then they pull out that good old faithful card they keep in their back pocket — it’s like the American Express Card – they don’t leave home without it!

In any event Evan, my feeling is whoever crys racism or brings up race will realise come November 5th just truly how far we have come in the last 50 years, one way or the other. And as at today, I would say that person has been Obama.

Just curious Evan, about how many white Americans do you truly believe to be HATERS in their hearts of black people, or half black and half white people? And how do you truly know this for fact??????

  21. I’ll respond to the rest later b/c i’m running late for work, but to answer your last question, I don’t believe a large number of white people are “haters” of black people (and yes, by virtue of the law and society in this country, Obama is black — he may technically be mulatto, but that’s moot) in this country, but at the same time I would suggest that many white people are racist without really realizing it on a deep level. Racism is absolutely pervasive in our culture, and it affects all of us to a degree, and when people protest about how unracist they are, it just means they’re racist, too, but they feel guilty about their racist feelings. Do you realize that when a white person accuses a black person of playing the “race card,” (especially in this instance, since according to facts and reality, he’s not “playing the race card”…it’s not wrong to acknowledge one’s race…and it’s not transcendent to pretend race doesn’t exist, it’s ignorant) that by that very accusation, the white person is being racist?

  22. Oh, and that being said, I’m pretty tired of this weird ridiculous assertion that somehow Obama said or his supporters say that people can’t scrutinize his past, his associates, etc…first of all, it’s ridiculous, because people HAVE been scrutinizing his past, coming up with no real dirt, but all kinds of retarded rumors in the process, and smearing him with them. In a court of law, it would be called libel, but it’s hard to sue 20 million adult daycare kids.

Seriously, Karen, believe me, I listen to Rush sometimes too, and these things all come from him, and they couldn’t be further removed from reality.

Rush is a whiny drug addicted dishonest fraud, Karen.

  23. Just real quick Evan, it amuses me how quick you can refer to Rush with such a disparraging tongue yet fail to see any wrong in Obama’s past, present and will probably do so in the future too. I guess party politics is way more important and held to a much higher degree than anything else, including what or who is right for an entire Country.

Oh yeah, and one more thing, if and when I am ever called a “racist” by a black person – you can be darn sure I am going to defend myself if only for the very fact that when one is labeled a racist by black people it is even worse because from then on people frown upon you even moreso than if you are a confessed athiest — go figure! Blacks don’t want to be judged by white people by the color of their skin and in case you didn’t know, neither do whites want to be judged by black people by the color of their skin — we should all be judged by our character – or lack thereof.

When Sen. Barack H. Obama first confirmed he was entering the race for the presidency, I too as a white woman was excited about the real possibility that in 2008 the United States of America would and could very well have the first ever man of color (a mulatto) as President — despite the fact that he as a liberal and I as more the conservative differ so. But Obama blew or is blowing his opportunity all by himself, and not just because of the “wrong” type of people he associated himself with in the past and right up to now but for other reasons that have absolutely nothing at all to do with his race (mulatto).

(I know I said this would be a quick response, but oh well). Just FYI I have grown up and lived in a Country where all I have known is a black man as the Prime Minister. The First Prime Minister (whose party is like your Democratic party) ruled for 25 straight years and then by another black man for a 10 year rule (whose party is like your Republican party) and I have come to the conclusion that it doesn’t really matter whether the President/Prime Minister is black or white, Democrat or Republican because whoever is the Leader must be the Leader of ALL and NOT just the people that belong to or support their respective political party.

Here where I live is exactly the opposite situation as what it is in the U.S. In our last general election the race card was played, as it had been since I could remember, but this time moreso because the black man leading the opposition chose a white man to run with him as his Deputy Prime Minister. Needless to say the race card players LOST and lost big time. Hence the reason why I offered you the advice I did for you to take back to the Obama headquarters.

Just curious Evan, what is your opinion of this guy:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxPilDaKkac

  24. WHAT is it about Obama’s past that bothers you?!

    I mean, my god.

Oh, and what’s wrong with being an atheist? It’s a completely reasonable belief…

Oh, and if Obama is “blowing it,” it must not be reflected in the polls b/c they currently show him winning the election with 316 electoral votes.

  25. Oh, and my opinion of the crazy ATLAH guy is that he’s one nervous breakdown away from being committed to a psychiatric facility.

I’ve made fun of him on this blog many, many times.

He’s unbridled nuts…like, as in…not even worthy of debating.

Also, he wouldn’t know a fact if it hit him in the face.

  26. And I just noticed something…you’re not American. Why do you care?

  27. Well, sorry but I am an American, I just don’t live in America BUT I do have my mother, and all of her family, and a brother and his family, and a daughter living in America, who I am concerned about PLUS I love America. Do I qualify now to be sticking my nose in U.S. politics? Besides, the Country where I live, I believe, it can be considered a part of “the World” of which Obama is so desirable to please.

One last and final question Evan: Why are you supporting and going to vote for Obama???

  28. Name an issue, any issue, and I’ll tell you exactly why he’s a better choice than John McCain.

This is a really easy question…you probably are buying into the media line that Obama supporters don’t know why we support him, but that’s a myth. There’s a reason that highly educated people are more likely to support Obama.

So which issue would you like me to answer? (You could, of course, read other posts on this blog where I compare the two candidates constantly).

You never answered my question on what’s wrong with being an atheist, either.

  29. Oh, and I never said you didn’t “qualify” to be “sticking your nose” in American politics, I was just curious why you were so concerned…and sort of also curious why you seem to have such a Southern Republican perspective, considering the fact that most Americans who have lived abroad are political progressives.

  30. First, there is nothing wrong with being an athiest – except for the sadness of it all, really.

What is Obama’s position with drilling for oil NOW. I think it a crock for people in the U.S. or elsewhere proclaiming to be champions of the environment YET they are the very ones who enjoy being transported around in trains, planes and automobiles with the air condition on. Doesn’t sound to caring about the World’s environment but just simply worried about “my backyard” — is it a legitimate cause and concern or just one of those things picked out of a hat to say you want to be an activist for. If I loved and cared for the environment as much as what Obama claims he does then it would be reflected in my day to day lifestyle. The saying “Practice what you Preach” comes to mind. Has he not or is he not flip flopping on this issue. Have you listened to his audio Podcasts at http://obama.senate.gov/podcast/. For some reason though I cannot find the gem of the Podcast re: drilling for oil – perhaps it has been removed as I notice some others have been too.

Evan, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy was a huge stumbling block for Obama and it does bring into question his leadership ability as opposed to just being a follower.

What about that slime ball Larry Sinclair – just makes you wonder why Obama has not done something along the lines of what you suggested earlier – commence a libel suit against him BUT no, seems like Obama and his campaign does not want to touch that one with a ten foot pole – which only leaves people like me to wonder WHY. Why not defend his character and reputation and show honor to his wife at the same time.

And why didn’t Obama feel the need to visit the injured Troops in hospital in Germany. After listening to his Podcast on the veterans, one would have thought for sure he would have made it a point to visit the injured Troops in Germany, just as was planned for prior to his trip over there. There is really no excuse nor explanation why he could not have visited them – yet again a mistake in judgement on his part.

And for Democrats to keep bringing up McCain’s age and his wife Cindy’s “recipe” and “addiction” to pain killers controversies, along with his adulterous affair with her way back when (got to be at least 20 or more years) seems kinda like child’s play when compared to what is coming out about Obama.

It just amazes me how Democrats can rake Republican/Independent people like Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Todd Schnitt, etc. etc. etc. just because they “dig” up all this juicy stuff on Obama yet they see absolutely no wrong whatsoever in the dirt against him. Perhaps that is just it Evan, it is the hypocrisy and double standards of it all that has turned me so off of Obama.

Now Evan, I guess we have beat this one to death as much as we can. I think I just might carry myself on over to Florida and register myself as Republican and vote for McCain – and I will personally tell Obama you made me do it.

P.S. With respect to the race thing, I believe that ever since the Rodney King incident (IMO King broke the Law and resisted arrest) and after the white policemen were acquitted and the tragic and senseless riots, injury, deaths, fires and destruction of peoples lives and property happened, coupled with the O.J. murder trial, the Jena 6 case, the Duke Unisersity Lacrosse case and even our last General Election here in the Country where I live, I have become very outspoken and disgusted whenever I see or hear of a black person(s) playing (or trying to play) that old faded out, over-used and abused doggy eared race card.

  31. I’ll respond to all of this later, b/c I’m working.

There’s too much here that isn’t factual.

You’re entitled to your own opinions, Karen, but you’re not entitled to your own facts. I’m sorry.

All of the things you think you’ve heard about Obama…nothing has been proven, dear. That’s why Obama hasn’t responded to most of the attacks. You can have a moron hurling libelous accusations at you from its cage, but responding to the moron doesn’t make it any better.

Oh, and only a goddamned racist would defend Rodney King’s assailants.

So, Karen…seriously, I’m really getting bored with this exchange, and I’m very close to making your comments into posts of their own. Refer to my comments policy.

  32. Oh, and atheism isn’t sad, it’s sensible.

  33. Evan, no need to bore yourself any more in responding further but you are right only a racist would defend Rodney King’s assailants AND only a guilt ridden white person would defend Rodney King’s actions. I have seen the same if not far worse beatings of black men by black police officers and it is simply called “Police Brutality” — so where does the hate come into play in cases where it is white police officers as opposed to black police officers involved in such beatings???

And you just proved the point I was trying to make — being a RACIST is far worse than being an ATHIEST – and I am sorry Evan, but IMO that is sad. You do not think so, and that is your opinion. Thank GOD (oops sorry) we are both entitled to express our opinions freely.

I’ve looked but I am unable to find what exactly is your policy regarding comments on here — and to be honest Evan, I am not even sure where the hell I am, or how in the hell I got here — perhaps GOD lead me here for a reason but what that is I do not know.

Sorry to have bored you on YOUR site, I shall leave you now in peace.

  34. Karen, after reading your exchange with Evan, I realize now, more than ever, how imporant it is to see Obama and his staff to the finish line, and to finally put an end to this conservative, Republican nightmare. What has happened to this great country is far more than a shame, it is a crime. It is a crime against each and every American citizen, at home and abroad; living, deceased, and unborn. The brainswashing, the lying and false accusations, the flood of hatred for the sake of “morality”. Our corporate oligarchy has numbed the minds of our citizens on a quest for the dollar. As a result people across the world are starving, being blown out of their homes, and family members seperated and left to die. If we do not vote appropriately to end this matter, and put every fiber of our being, Karen, into ending this regime of disillusionment…. then we have to hold ourselves accountable for the death of thousands across the globe. I still believe in Democracy, and I still believe in the human element. Obviously, Karen does not.

  35. If Jase and I were in a sorority together, that response would elicit snaps from me and all of the other girls with seniority.

  36. Oh my goodness Jase, just exactly who do you believe Sen. Barack H. Obama is — he is not the Savior! And I do not think Sen. John McCain is either. Are you saying that it is your sincere belief that when (if) Sen. Obama gets elected as President of The United States of America that then and only then will the people the World over STOP starving, being blown out of their homes, and family members seperated and left to die and that there will be NO more hatred in the world etc. etc. etc.??? I agree there is a regime of disillusionment BUT I do not think it is coming from the “other” side from you so comfortably and contently stand!

And sorry to disappoint you too, Jase, but I am not a follower and therefore to brainwash me it would be very difficult. I do not buy into sh*t as easily as some. And like I pointed out to Evan – I judge Sen. Obama by what I hear come out of his own mouth, and by NO other means whatsoever. Since I have obviously touched on a nerve or two with first Evan and now you – let’s just wait and see how this election process ends — 4 years from now — I wouldn’t want either of you to suffer a nervous breakdown because of little ole me.

P.S. Evan, sorry but sicking Jase on me didn’t scare me one bit. See how “friendships” can be ruined just because of politics Evan. The game is just taken way too seriously!

  37. Haha, I didn’t sic Jase on you.

He did that all by himself.

But no, Karen, you haven’t “touched a nerve” since you haven’t proven one fact since you started replying to this thread.

Seriously…do you read the rest of the blog? Because half the shit you’ve said has been refuted on this very blog, and before you’ve said it, too.

So…if you call my exasperation at the fact that Factcheck.org can and does destroy pretty much everything you believe about Barack Obama “striking a nerve,” then we obviously have different definitions.

  38. Well, Karen, what is impressive is that you seem to be so enlightened to the point that you have lost hope. I think you misunderstand when you see me, and hundreds of thousands of people across the globe cheering on Senator Obama. We are not cheering because we think he is the “Savior” ( I assume you are referring to Jesus). We cheer because FINALLY someone out there is SAYING what we have been THINKING and SAYING in our private circles for some time now. He has SOLUTIONS to REAL problems and, though they may not all work, he is at least trying. He sees the well being of humanity to be important, not just special interest and lobbyists which have corroded our government to the point of futility. So 4 years of now, the world won’t be perfect (not that it ever has been) but perhaps we will be taking a giant leap forward in restoring democracy in America and begin reaching out across the globe in peace, the way it was meant to be.

  39. Oh and Karen it doesn’t count if you watch Fox and CNN play 1 minute sound bites of the thing’s Obama says and then preach that you only take his words as fact. You hear him speak through the media. You should probably invest more time in searching a variety of media, in order to make more well informed decisions.

And Evan didn’t sick me on you. I was sick of you, and so I sicked myself.

  40. Evan, firstly — of course Sen. Barack Obama (the Democrat) will be saying the complete opposite to what Sen. McCain (the Republican) will be saying on the campaign trail — that’s a no brainer. November 4 will be the deciding factor as to what the will of the people truly is. Lets remember just for a second here what the “before” and “after” situation has been as relates to our Congress.

Secondly, Jase – I was all willing to give you the benefit of any doubt, just to be fair, so I went on this little old trusty thing called the Internet and guess what I found out in just 10 minutes of investigative work:

    1. Your little purple (my favorite color by the way) symbol there you use is EXACTLY the same as what I have seen used on Factcheck.org or on that site entitled DIVERSE THOUGHTS relating to Brooks Jackson and Kathleen Hall Jamieson — do those names sound familiar. I presume it must be a symbol of PEACE, LOVE, UNITY, FAITH, HOPE & CHANGE — just as YOU preach about.

    2. Annenberg Public Policy Center, who run Factcheck.org and “say” it is unbiased sure does seem to have a hell alot of the people on its team who used to work for CNN, even Brooks Jackson himself, so I doubt it very seriusly Jase and Evan that that would be a place I would want to check for the FACTS, particularly as relates to this General Election. I was so hoping to connect George Soros to Factcheck.org but I truly have seen enough — hey guys do YOU know if he is connected in a HUGE way???

    3. Jase ya almost had me. I thought you were gonna be a new kind of PEACE preaching man but you just had to go and ruin it by petty mean and unkind words. “I was sick of you” is NOT something you should go around saying to people out of one side of your mouth while the other side is talking about PEACE and HOPE for a “better” and “CHANGed” world through Sen. Barack H. Obama’s leadership. Wonder how the people who live in the South side of Chicago feel after all this time of having Obama on their side YET nothing has CHANGED for them. Now here it is he has the audacity to make ‘CHANGE’ his campaign slogan! Let’s go and ask them how much CHANGE (for the better) has come to their lives since Obama was elected their Senator.

If the two of you would just stop for one moment and hear me when I say I have formed my opinion of Sen. Obama NOT by Fox and CNN (Jase not sure if you should have grouped CNN with Fox like that – the people at Factcheck.org aint gonna like that) but by what I hear come out of his mouth on the campaign trial and in one on one interviews that he has given, etc. PERIOD. Obama is the reason why Obama is losing supporters or NOT gaining anymore supporters – he has no one else to blame but himself. This may turn out to be first time ever that a man of color CANNOT play the race card, for the mere fact that his hands will be tied and he will not be able to reach into his back pocket to swipe it out!

P.S. Evan and/or Jase — remind me again who controls CONGRESS. Now remind me again about where all those people are right now and for how long. Allrightythen!!

  41. Haha, only a total wingnut doubts Factcheck.org.

  42. Oh, and you can bitch about Congress if you can explain two things to me:

    1. Civics as it pertains to veto-proof majorities and filibusters.

    2. 5 major bills Congress has debated this session.

    Seriously.

Don’t fucking bitch about Congress if you don’t understand it.

Congress’s approval rating is so low because the fucking war isn’t over yet, because, even though the Democrats have control, they do not have super-majorities that prevent the Republicans from blocking legislation.

Unfortunately, most Americans don’t understand how Congress works because it’s apparently more important to debate whether Noah fucked dinosaurs on his Ark in biology class than teach our American kids basic civics.

  43. Funny that you mention George Soros.

“George Soros” — one of those “code names” that wingnuts don’t actually know anything about, but their media sources have brainwashed them to consider him the Boogeyman, and wingnuts think they win arguments when they flap their cheeto hands together and say “George Soros George Soros George Soros!” but actually all the rest of us see is wet grubby cheeto dust.

  44. Oh, and what the fuck do you know about Southside?

    Nothing.

I actually know for a fact that there are thousands of people in that area who would say Obama’s had a positive effect on things.

Seriously, Karen, you’ve allowed your mind to be filled with utter bullshit.

  45. Karen, do you ever wonder why those people left CNN in the first place? And being sick of someone’s opinions isn’t petty unless i called you a name or something. Which I didn’t.

As for Congress, there has been a distinct effort to try to thwart the efforts of this Administration into anymore misconduct, but I won’t go into the complexities of how our Congressional system works because it would just take too much time to explain. I suggest you go online or into a book and find out. Its complicated, and you will understand one day, that is if you take the time. I paid attention in government in high school! yay.

  46. Wow Evan, such language – you need your mouth washed out with soap!
Maybe I need to sick Jase on you now.

I am not going to waste my time talking anymore about Congress – especially since the Majority of them (pun intended) are all off somewhere stretched out underneath coconut trees on some deserted Caribbean Island sipping Rum Punch or Yellow Birds — perhaps in a month I’ll answer you. All I know, as is with Politics, is that we the people are promised this, that and the other in order to win over our votes and then when they get elected – NOTHING is delivered or no CHANGE is in sight.

Now, I believe it is I, who is bored with all of this. Happy Campaigning! So long people.

P.S. Hope that’s Sugar Free Kool-aid you’ll have been drinking, because come November 5th 2008 is will be so obvious to US who voted for Obama — all you’ll will have over inflated spare tires — which will cost you undue heartache in the end! (hehehehehe).

  47. You don’t know how tire inflation works?

    *sigh*

  48. I will say, though, Karen, that with that one statement, you have exposed just how easily manipulated you are by the right-wing media.

Did you see Obama’s response to all that? Where he laughingly points out that the Republicans attacking him seem to “take pride in being ignorant”?

    It was funny.

  49. You’re right Evan – I really don’t know anything at all about anything! *frown*

And by the way, my P.S. was meant to be a joke(s) – I was referring to all the weight you would gain unless all that Obama kool-ade you are drinking is “Sugar Free”. The “over inflated spare tire” means the blubber you would put on around your stomach area from all the sugar in the Obama kool-ade which would cause you heart problems in the end PLUS to poke fun of the Obama “inflat your tires to save money on gas” sillyness he SPOKE. (get it now – personally I thought it was quite clever and cute — but I can understand why you wouldn’t “get it” (wink, wink) (hehehehehe).

  50. But there was no silliness in what Obama said.

But to understand that, you have to listen to everything he said, not just the part the right wing media excerpted and then interpreted for you.

  51. Evan, I just wish that Obama is everything you sincerely believe he is if/when he becomes President of the United States of America – you take all of this so seriously and you put ALL of your faith in this one man that I hope you never feel betrayed/used nor foolish for ever having trusted him at all. You take care Evan.

P.S. As long as both of us, even though on complete opposite sides of almost every issue (it seems), have NO guilt whatsoever in what we truly BELIEVE to be right, then I guess we will both be o.k.

  52. Karen, if you read this blog in its entirety, rather than just obsessing on one post, and if you paid attention to the progressive netroots in general, you’d notice that nobody’s “putting all their faith” in Obama.

I’ve called him out (on REAL ISSUES) about 5 times in the past month when I’ve disagreed with him.

  53. Wow Karen. You truley are a force to reckon with. Your logic is astounding. You definitely make the Republicans proud. It makes sense to me now that there could possibly be people out there ignorant enough to be manipulated by the republicans, but you prove the whole point of Evan’s blog in one simple string of comments. Congrats, you have made a fine example of yourself and the others like you.

  54. Yes Jase, me and the others like me, who share this World with you and the others like you, are PROUD, so perhaps it is about time you’ll accept us as we are and start being a little bit tolerant, as you’ll demand we be of you!

Oh yeah, and how many US Presidents have been Democrats over the last 50 years? O.k. then, when you think about it, it aint so bad being “ignorant” is it. And the alternative to us being “ignorant” would be what –to be like you and the others like you — NO THANKS!

“You” people cannot even co-exist with others in your own Country who have a different political view than yours — how in the hell do/can you expect to bridge any gaps with people of this world who have different cultures, religious beliefs, traditions, etc. etc. etc.

    The circle is almost complete!!!!!

  55. Our side can’t coexist? What a fucking joke.

The domestic terrorist that entered the church in Knoxville last week had been reading Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, and Bill O’Reilly.

  56. Evan there are crazies everywhere — like there doesn’t exist any crazies on “your” side, right?!! Are you trying to say that every single person who has ever commited murder, etc., etc. has been a Republican! Produce the evidence of that Evan, then I will swallow your hook, line and sinker!

Look right now with these exhanges between us — who is the one showing signs of hostility – Me or You. You preach it good Evan, but you don’t live it, and quite honestly Evan, that’s how I base my opinions, good or bad, of others.

Now, if you don’t stop harrassing me, I’m gonna………..

  57. Plz refer to the Blog of Unnecessary Question Marks.
