Tori Amos did a little web-chat thing, but you don’t have to be excited about it.

Really, you don’t, but indulge me for a moment as I’m taking a lil’ break from the politics. I’ll gear back up when Walnuts names Mittens the Magic Underpants his veepee candidate and Barry picks whoever he picks…but right now I’m thinking music. Anyway, Tori Amos is my favourite artist of all time, and for me as a composer/pianist/singer, she’s also a teacher, so I enjoy watching her candidly answering questions like this. In this, she talks quite a bit about her upcoming projects, including the musical she’s writing, The Light Princess, as well as the current project she’s promoting, Comic Book Tattoo, a large comic book written by many different artists, each of whom were tasked with interpreting one of her songs in his or her own way. Really fascinating concept, and I can’t think of many composers whose works would lend themselves to that kind of expansive reinterpretation, not only across genre but across medium. So I guess I’ll have to pick it up one of these days.

Anyway…so here’s the video of the little webchat:

  1. She has demons.

    She scares me.

    Beautiful Piano player though…

  2. Why are you so scared of her?

She’s a composer. She’s very very connected with her muse.

    I find her comforting.

  3. She is like…the ice queen from narnia scary. She’s…”I’m reading your mind” scary. She’s “I secretly am an evil witch” scary.

    That’s why :)

  4. You’re saying she’s intuitive, layered, and deep.
