The definition of hilarity

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) donated $250,000 to the fight against California’s Proposition 8, the measure on the November ballot that would eliminate same-sex marriage rights in the state by enshrining Stone Age fundamentalist discrimination in the state constitution. PG&E is, just like it sounds, the power company for much of California.

Well, guess who’s pissed?

Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, says no public utility should be allowed to take such a position. “They provide power — gas and electricity. They should not be taking positions against ballot measures,” he emphasizes. “That’s like a quasi-government agency taking positions against ballot measures, which is illegal.”

He adds that the money contribution would also seem to make PG&E, which services a large part of central and northern California, “the homosexual marriage utility.”

Omigod, I love it. “Campaign for Children and Families,” of course, advocates for neither children nor families, but just against gays. Randy Thomasson, of course, is a nutbag of the highest degree.

But I’m with Jeremy from Good-As-You on this one:

Boycott. You must boycott. If your entire movement is going to dedicate mucho ink and mucho focus on McDonald’s for giving $20,000 to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, then you simply have no choice but to stop patronizing a company that has given 230K more to actual marriage equality. Lights out. Gas off. Boycott.

Emphasis mine.

But yes, please, so-called “pro-family” bigots, boycott. Walk your talk. If you insist on taking retrograde stands against your fellow humans, you should be willing to go fully retrograde. Set yourselves apart. Turn all your lights off and then we’ll see whether the light of Jesus actually comes through or whether, as I suspect, the “Christian” thing is just a label behind which you hide your raw bigotry.

  1. In America, where the separation of church and state is part of our governmental process, churches should not be involved in the legislative process in any case. John McCain is an idiot and should be banned.
