More bigotry from the Mormons

This time it comes to us from Brigham Young “University,” where good little Mormon boysngirls go to learn how to sew buttons onto magic underpants without anybody knowing…

And there are no gays, except for all the gay students and teachers and married husbands and elders and prophets and um, but other than that, no gays, they swear.  Except for the ones who are gay.

So here’s what happened:

A student at BYU did an art project wherein he photographed openly gay students, and alongside each portrait is a companion portrait of a supportive person in each of their respective lives.  The catch is that the photographer doesn’t identify which is which.  In the artist’s words, “I am not telling the viewer who identifies themselves as homosexual, because I hope the viewer will realize that placing a label with the portrait only creates divisions in our society and furthers stereotypes. It is my hope this body of work can be a vehicle for tolerance, support, love and change.”

Profound stuff.  Well, APPARENTLY this obviously pornographic project (smirk) was just a little too much for the bigoted wannabe-polygamist dicksnots who run BYU, so they removed the exhibit:

Apparently the topic of homosexuality is a bit much for the BYU audience and my part of our Fine Art Classes show was taken down today. It seems that censorship is favored over support and love. This really saddens me. I found out because a friend of mine went to the show and said that my peices [sic] had been removed and the show had been rearranged. While I knew this topic would be controversial (in fact I expected that this would ruffle some feathers) I never thought that they would bring it down.

Oh no, there are pictures of gays, but we can’t tell which ones they are!

As John Aravosis points out, “Apparently exposing young impressionable Mormons to art, and another point of view, runs too great a risk of damaging their fragile narrow-minded sense of hate and intolerance.”

BUT, this is getting a lot of exposure in the blogosphere now, reaching a far wider audience,  so, HA HA, DUMB IGNORAMUS BIGOTS who run BYU, more people are seeing these shots than ever would have before you took down a student’s brilliant project out of tight-assed fear.

The far right retards aren’t losing the culture war because of their hatred and bigotry — they’re losing it because they’re mentally retarded, and also because of their hatred and bigotry.
